Yoga Beyond Yoga Dance
Retreats 2013
Yoga Beyond Yoga and Ken Ryan this year sees the introduction of the
“Yoga Beyond Yoga with Dance”
retreat.
The overall aim will be to combine a lively programme of deeply health enhancing and holistic activities while nourishing you to a great extent with natural, raw, live and liquid foods. These will take the form of juices, smoothies, raw and cooked soups alongside Boghill’s delicious menu of wheat free, dairy free, sugar free, divine foods- much of which will have come from the organic garden.
The retreat facilitator will be Ken Ryan who has been returning to Boghill to run retreats for the last 8 years.
Ken is from Galway town in the west of Ireland, although these days tends to spend most of his time abroad; he has travelled extensively. It was during one of his extended trips, during the long warm winter of his first trip to India in 1994 that Ken spent much of his time living alone in the tropical forest, at Peace with nature. He has since been inspired to regularly return to the mystical sub-continent and further east for lengthy periods of study and practice at traditional and contemporary schools of Yoga and Meditation.
When on retreat and in class Ken interprets these teachings in a form more appropriate to the western mind and lifestyle without compromising the essence of Truth that is Yoga. His style of teaching is often lively, balanced with gentleness of approach.
In terms of teaching style; Ken is less likely to be very critical of your physical practice or have the intention to coerce you into a perfect posture, rather encourage and inspire you to go Beyond yourself by restfully and with ease opening out into where the body is ready to be..
Practical Tantric awareness has been one of the strongest influences along with a deep Love for the more subtle aspects of Hatha Yoga Vedanta philosophy. He has always placed great emphasis on restful Awareness and he Loves to share the many Epitemy Yoga teachings which are simple realisations of the natural state of being.
Whether holding steady, even strong postures or if you wish and are ready to “jump along” to a more energetic practice, you can expect to discover great Openness and Energy with ease… Anticipate also the Bliss of being cradled into a deep relaxed Awareness of Being.
. Whether it is for you to ‘find peace with’ or ‘take on the world’ your Yoga Beyond Yoga experience will be that for you. As you will see by the daily schedule when participating in a Yoga Beyond Yoga retreat you will have open access to up to 8 hours of Yogic and other spirited practices each day.
Within a very short time of arriving at the retreat you will find yourself in a new space of Being, well removed from the struggles and strains you encounter in daily life. Given the programme of Yoga, etc and delicious juices, soups and salads you will most likely be feeling vibrantly healthy, light and clear in body and mind by the end of the week. If this type of holiday/retreat is something that is new to you, you might well be amazed by how well you will be feeling, given the experience and at what a profound and positive effect it can have on your life Beyond the retreat.
This Summer, given the many aspects of health and fitness it will help develop and given its novel and fun value, dance will be introduced as an optional part of the programme towards the end of the week. Whether you wish to find/enjoy the expression of your free flowing form, relax and simply sway or rest on the floor in tuning into the subtle vibrations of the music, you will be well guided by our teachers Tony Ryan (Ken’s Da) and Eleanor Winters.
Tony has spent the last 20 years tapping out the traditional steps in teaching them to thousands of dancing enthusiasts in Galway, the West and globally. He carries on the tradition that was handed down to him by his own Father; they began dancing the small kitchen floor. He delivers the dances with great passion, energy, excitement and an enjoyment that is contagious. Tony is said to be “bright, friendly and cheerful, relaxed and easygoing”… “He makes the dance easy for us and is patient in allowing us plenty of practice”
Nutritional therapist,Eleanor Winters will also be sharing an energetic style of dance with us. It will be more formless than that of Ceili dance. Eleanor herself dances as the discrete Fairies of Boghill might. In her movement it can appear as if her feet don’t touch the ground. Ele will be sharing this lightness of foot with us along with her expertise in the area of nutritional therapy
Your participation in the holistic programme along with the dance will greatly affect your fitness levels and sense of centredness in body and mind. The activities will also deeply cleanse the body and mind through Yoga Purification techniques and powerful cleansing Green and other herbal teas-there will be beautiful Tea Ceremonies early each morning. The retreats, if you wish, you will find highly energetic yet deeply restful and calming.
